Ahead of today’s Edinburgh Council education committee meeting, when it appears the council have backed down on plans to make changes to schools in southwest and west Edinburgh, SNP MSP for Edinburgh Pentlands, Gordon Macdonald, said: “This is wonderful news and everyone in the community should be proud of their efforts in securing the future of their schools.
“The Save Our Schools campaign has been formidable and they have kept strong throughout the entire process. They have campaigned every day, since the proposal was first announced in December, and made a very strong and successful case for all four schools to remain.
“I’m pleased to see the Committee accept the overwhelming opinion of the communities and now the focus must be on moving forward together, with the council, parents, students, schools and committee.
“This is not the end – this is, and has always been, about ensuring that young people in Balerno, Currie, Woodlands and the WHEC have access to the best possible education and opportunities. We must now make sure that Council concentrate on the future and vision for all four schools and that there is meaningful investment in the school estate.”
