Ocean Terminal have made St Columba’s Hospice as its charity partner for 2018 and the link starts with an exhibition of photography and patient artwork from the hospice. It is free to the public and can be found on level one of the centre.
The mixed-use retail and leisure destination has raised over £35,000 for Children with Cancer and Leukaemia Advice and Support for Parents (CCLASP).
This year they hope to have the same success for St Columba’s Hospice, a local independent charity which provides specialist care and support for people with terminal illnesses and their families across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
Jon Heggie, director of fundraising for St Columba’s Hospice, said: “It is important that we continue to raise our profile and reach more people in the community that need us, so this is the perfect way to let more people know we are here, and we can help.”
David Flucker, aged 95, is an out-patient supported by the Hospice and he spent nine months designing and building the electric train set which is on display in the exhibition, taking inspiration from buildings and places across Edinburgh and the Lothians.
David, said: “I can’t run or take on any outdoor challenges to raise money for the Hospice so this is my way of showing appreciation for the amazing support and care I’ve received over the years.”
Michelle MacLeod, deputy centre manager for Ocean Terminal, said: “We welcome over 4.2 million people through the doors every year so it is important that we choose to support a charity that resonates with our customers.
“St Columba’s Hospice is a place that holds a special place in the hearts of people across Edinburgh and the Lothians so we are delighted to announce our partnership with them.”
