Christine Jardine MP for Edinburgh West tells us that she conducted a survey on night flights and the results are clear.

There is overwhelming support for some kind of restriction on night time flights with 71 % of the 700 people who responded all in agreement.

There are currently no restrictions on such flights although airports such as Stansted have limits.

Ms Jardine said: “It is clear that this is an important issue for residents around the airport and under the flightpaths.

“Though not everyone experiences major disruption from night flights now, the vast majority are concerned about increased flights in future.

“I am particularly concerned about a number of the responses I have received regarding serious disruption to people’s lives and I will be taking these cases up with the airport directly.

“There is clear support for restrictions. I would encourage the airport to take action itself without the need for regulation.”

The survey results will be submitted to the airport, which is currently conducting a similar consultation, but which does not specifically mention night traffic.

The questions posed were :

  • Do you find that evening and night time flights are affecting you?  333 yes 365 no
  • Would you support restrictions on further night time flights at Edinburgh airport? 491 yes 187 no
