Elite League: Belfast Giants 3, Braehead Clan 5; Manchester Storm 3, Fife Flyers 2; Cardiff Devils 8, Edinburgh Capitals 0; Dundee Stars 2, Coventry Blaze 4.

Patrick Asselin claimed a double as long-time league pace-setters, Cardiff Devils, shutout bottom club Edinburgh Capitals 8-0 in the Principality.

Elsewhere, Tyler Shattock netted a glory double as Braehead Clan pulled off a 5-3 road win at Belfast Giants to boost their end-of-season play-off hopes.

The Scots were 1-0 down after 16 minutes when Glasgow-born Colin Shields opened the scoring for the home side.

But Clan hit four unanswered goals to lead 4-1 with evergreen Brendan Brooks sparking the blitz.

He levelled only 37 seconds into the middle session and his goal was followed by strikes from Shattock and Cameron Burt.

Jacob Doty made it 4-1 after 41 minutes but Sebastien Sylvestre pulled one back and Brendan Connolly made it 4-3 with less than four minutes left.

Shattock’s unassisted strike with 1min 15sec left on an empty net after Giants withdrew their netminder secured the valuable points.

Fife Flyers left slip a 2-0 lead following first-period goals from Chase Schaber and Jim Jorgensen to skid to a 3-2 road defeat at Manchester Storm.

And Dundee Stars suffered a 4-2 home defeat to rivals Coventry Blaze to dent their play-off hopes.

Blaze led 2-0 after 35 minutes but were pegged back to 2-2 after 46 minutes following goals from Brian Hart and Emerson Hrynyk.

But a Ben Lake double inside the final two minutes secured the two points for the English side.

Sunday’s fixtures: Braehead Clan v Manchester Storm (6pm); Dundee Stars v Milton Keynes Lightning (5pm); Edinburgh Capitals v Fife Flyers (6pm).
