Dean Owens Southern Wind 16 February 2018

Leither Dean Owens has a new album out on 16 February 2018 but it will be officially launched later today at Celtic Connections in Glasgow.

Southern Wind was recorded in Nashville with the same team as his acclaimed Into the Sea album, including producer Neilson Hubbard (whose recent clients include John Prine and Jason Isbell) and award winning guitarist Will Kimbrough (Emmylou Harris’s guiatrist of choice on the road).

Released on At The Helm Records it is already receiving critical plaudits (including a 4 star review in Mojo) and claims of “best yet”.

Put together with a crack team of Nashville musicians, it takes his music in a new direction – a swampy slice of southern rock and soul, which has drawn comparisons with Richard Ashcroft and Little Feat.

Dean is widely regarded as one Scotland’s finest singer/songwriters, with fans including Bob Harris, Irvine Welsh and Russell Brand. Armed with a searingly soulful voice, skilfully crafted stories and earworm inducing melodies, he is a compelling and engaging performer, with an emotional hurricane of stories and songs.

In 2017 he became the first Scottish musician to officially showcase at the prestigious Americanafest in Nashville.

This video for The Last Song (first song on the album, and first single release from it) was made with Tribe Porty Youth Theatre from Portobello (working with Edinburgh’s Waltzer Films) –

Edinburgh dates coming soon. Keep an eye here.
