A man who was found to have over £40 000 worth of drugs in his possession has today been sentenced over seven years in prison.
Colin Parchment, aged 54, of Bradford, West Yorkshire, had been transporting illegal substances between Bradford and Edinburgh.
On Wednesday, July 15, 2015, Parchment was stopped driving a black Mini Cooper motor vehicle on the M74 as part of an intelligence led operation by Police Scotland’s Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit (OCCTU) East.
He was found to be in possession of 300g of cocaine, with an approximate value of £16,000, along with 256g of diamorphine, which has a value of around £25,000.
Parchment pled guilty to the supply of controlled drugs at Glasgow High Court on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, and was sentenced there today to seven years and three months in prison.
Detective Inspector David Wright of OCCTU East said: “Parchment believe he could bring drugs into the Edinburgh area without detection, however he has now been held accountable for his crimes.
“Serious organised criminals undermine the efforts of those that are trying to make an honest living.
“As an organisation Police Scotland is committed tackling the supply of drugs in our community and this continues to be a top priority for our officers.
“We will not tolerate this type of anti-social behaviour and we will continue to hold those who peddle drugs in our community to account and bring them to justice.”
