Hearts made their second signing of the summer today when they captured the signature of Tranmere Rovers striker Cole Stockton on a pre-contract agreement. The 23-year-old’s contract at Prenton Park ends on 30th June and the big striker will officially join Hearts on 1st July.

Stockton scored 18 goals last season, having been loaned out to Morecambe before he returned to Rovers who were denied a return to the English Football League when they lost the play-off final to Forest Green Rovers at Wembley.

Stockton will head out with his new Hearts teammates to a training camp in Dublin as Ian Cathro’s side prepare for the new season in Ireland.

Meanwhile, Hearts await Friday night’s draw for the sectional stage of the Betfred League Cup. As one of the seeded teams in the north, there’s the possibility they will be drawn in the same section as city rivals Hibernian. However, they won’t be drawn with Edinburgh City – for reasons known only to the SPFL, Gary Jardine’s side are in the south half of the draw.
