Edinburgh Monarchs newcommer Ricky Wells is confident that he can help spearhead the Armadale club to glory along with skipper Sam Masters.

The former Workington Comets star believes their experience in the Premier League and also the Elite League will count.

And the 24-year-old World Cup racer, who was the USA under-16 and under-21 champion, added: “A lot of the other guys in the team can learn from us.”

New Zealand-born Wells, who was fourth in the race for the Ben Fund Bonanza title at Glasgow recently, has been busy since arriving back in Britain.

He posted 19 points in a star-studded field at the recent Peter Karlsson Farewell at Wolverhampton.

And he was second in the abandoned 50th anniversary spectacular at Berwick last weekend.

Wells was in action again in the Cumberland Open Championship at his former club, Workington on Saturday.

He added: “It’s always tough to know how things will go at this early stage in the season.

“We’ll really know two months into the season but the key to a successful season is to win your home meetings and pick up points on the road.”

Monarchs roar into action with the Harrisons Scottish Open at Armadale on Friday when Masters defends the title.

The line-up also includes Aussie countryman Justin Sedgmen, who is now with Manchester-based Belle Vue Aces, and ex Glasgow Tigers rider Josh Grajczonek.
