Hearts activity in the January transfer window continued apace today with the signing of Slovenian international right back Andraz Struna.
The 27-year-old, who has appeared 25 times for his country, has signed a short-term deal in Gorgie, initially until the end of this season.
Struna left Greek Super League club PAS Giannina last summer after making 89 first team appearances.
The 6ft 1” full back is seen as a short-term replacement for the injured Callum Paterson who underwent surgery today on his knee injury, expected to keep him out until September. Paterson issued a statement on social media today saying he was pleased the operation went well and while there was a long road to recovery he was looking forward to the challenge.
Hearts have already signed defenders Aaron Hughes. Lennard Sowah and midfielder Malaury Martin since the transfer window opened at the beginning of the month.
Speaking to Hearts official website, Struna said:
“I’m very happy to be here and I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve its goals for the second part of the season,” he said.
“I’m an attacking full back and I think I’ll be good fit based on the ideas presented to me by the club and the Head Coach.
“I like possession football and I understand that is the way Hearts want to play, so I am optimistic. The facilities here are good, as a player you have everything you need here so now it’s about getting to work.”
