Edinburgh-based writer Russell Jones has been shortlisted for a major international writing prize. The Half the World Global Literati Award comes with a prize of $50,000 for the winner, and a variety of $1000 runner up prizes.
Jones’ book, The Talkers, is a novel for young adults. It follows a teenage girl as she hunts for her parents’ killers in a matriarchal world where powerful individuals psychically control animals.
The Half the World Global Literati Award is in its first year and aims to ”give voice to the inner lives of women”.
Jones says he’s ”thrilled to have been shortlisted. My book deals with issues of gender inequality and the corrupting nature of power, which seem very important topics at the moment.”
