A police investigation is underway after man, who is in his 60s, was seriously assaulted at Gladstones public house on Mill Lane, Leith yesterday lunchtime.

The unknown attacker approached the victim at around 12.40pm and hit him on the head leaving the victim with injuries which resulted in a hospital admission.

Police are appealing for information in an effort to trace the suspect, who spoke with a Liverpudlian accent.

He is described as white, in his 40s, 6ft 1in and was wearing dark clothing and white trainers.

Inspector Kevin Rafferty said: “We are pursuing a number of positive lines on inquiry in relation to this matter however I want to hear from anyone who witnessed this attack to come forward immediately.

“The male victim was taken to the ERI for medical attention but I’m pleased to say he has been discharged and is now recovering at home.

“Violent behaviour is completely unacceptable and we are working hard to ensure this suspect is swiftly traced and arrested.”
