The former And So to Bed shop on Dundas Street has been converted into a convenience store and now Tesco Express will open next week with 21 staff from the local area.
Store manager Karen Marshall was keen to ensure that all vacancies were filled by local people to enhance the community feeling.
Karen, who has worked at Tesco for 15 years said: “I was thrilled by the response we received to our recruitment drive. There were so many great applicants which made the decision very tough when it came to selecting the successful 21.”
The store will be launched on 26 April with much celebration including a cheque handover to Hannah Mitchell who is Fundraising Officer for The Yard. The £500 will be a great boost to the adventure playground for children and young people with disabilities.
Karen added: “We are delighted to be able to support the The Yard, as they do such wonderful work for the local community. We are really pleased that Hannah Mitchell is coming to launch the new store and join in the celebrations with us. My new team and I are looking forward to offering shoppers a clean bright and spacious new store with fast and friendly service.”
The store opens at 9:00am on Tuesday 26 April with the official opening ceremony at 10.30.
The usual store opening hours will be from 6:00am till 11:00pm.
