Farid El Alagui praised the contribution of fellow strikers Jason Cummings and Anthony Stokes during yesterday’s 2-2 draw with St Mirren in Paisley.

Cummings opened the scoring after beating Saints’ offside trap then Stokes did well to chase a lost cause as the ball appeared to be going out of play before sending in an inch perfect cut back to El Alagui who hammered the ball into the net from the edge of the penalty area.

At one stage it looked as if Hibs would be falling nine points behind Falkirk in the race for second place however El Alagui’s strike coupled with a late comeback from 2-0 down by Queen of the South means that the Easter Road side are just six points behind with three games in hand.

The first of these games takes place on Tuesday night when Hibs face Livingston at Easter Road and victory over the Lions would leave them in the driving seat.

Speaking to Hibs TV, El Alagui said: “It was a tough game for us. It was hard, especially when we were 2-1 down so it was good to get a goal at the end and come back for a point but we obviously wanted the three points.

“All credit to Jase (Jason Cummings). he never stopped. It was good for him to score for the Scotland team in midweek and that took his mind off things. we never questioned his ability to score goals and I am happy for him to score today.

“My goal was a lost cause but Anthony (Stokes) did well to get the ball and cut it back and I just happened to be in the right position.

“I just have to keep myself fit and ready for the manager whenever he calls me to come on the pitch. Whether that is one minute, ten minutes or 30 minutes, it doesn’t matter.

“As soon as I’m on the pitch I have to give everything I can to change the game and I was happy with that today. There are lots of games coming now, so I just have to be ready again.”
