Pre-event Media Call
For over 25 years this event has been attracting some of the World’s athletes to take part in testing cross-country races. Taking place in the picturesque surroundings of Holyrood Park, the Great Edinburgh XCountry also features a mass-participation 5K event, The Pure Gym Winter Run, which will see around 3,000 amateur runners tackle a multi-terrain course ahead of the Elite races.
At today’s Press Call, five of the top entrants, along with the Lord Provost, The Rt. Hon. Donald Wilson, were on hand to meet and greet the press and pose for photographs in the Park. Present were –
Mo Farah – (GB + NI) 2014 Double World and Olympic Champion at 5,000M and 10,000M.
Callum Hawkins – (GB + NI) 2014 5th place Euro U23 Cross-country Championships. Represented Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Fionnuala McCormack (EUR) 2011 and 2012 World Cross-country Champion.
Garrett Heath – (USA) 2014 and 2015 Great Edinburgh 4K Winner. 7th place 2010 World Indoor Championships.
Steph Twell – (Scotland – Mixed Relay) Finalist 2015 World Championships 5,000M finalist. 2008 World Junior 1500M Champion.
Competition starts at 9:50am tomorrow morning with the U15 races, with the three waves of Great Winter Runners starting at 10:10. The Elite races start at 13:06 with the 4x1K relay.
