TER Edinburgh Tram

Yes there will be those among you who think this is a Fringe joke but it is not! Whatever you might think or have thought about the tram it is a game changer in Edinburgh’s public transport set up.

The company has been shortlisted in the Rail Operator of the Year category at The National Transport Awards taking place in October.

The criteria for this award is based on performance, reliability, passenger growth, customer satisfaction and initiatives to improve service.

Ian Craig, Chief Executive – Transport for Edinburgh said: “Being nominated within this prestigious category is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire tram team.  Since we launched the service in May 2014 its popularity has continued to grow, and the people of Edinburgh have really taken trams into their hearts.

“By the end of our first year of operations we carried nearly 5 million passengers and achieved a 95% customer satisfaction rating. Receiving this recognition from our industry peers further highlights Edinburgh Trams commitment to provide a first class service to Edinburgh’s residents and visitors.”

The awards which attract the very best in public transport operators from across the United Kingdom have also shortlisted Transport for Edinburgh in the Travel Information and Marketing category.

  1. Its certainly been a game changer, holding up traffic along princes street, spoiling the skyline with wires and the cause of many disruptions with breakdowns and running people over and crashing. Several incidents in first year. If the criteria for this award was serving ALL the people of Edinburgh instead of anyone who lives between York Place and the Airport and tourists flying in and out and on actually making a profit after much more than £776 official figure was spent on it then it could not ever be nominated for anything except the most hated thing in Edinburgh. I live East and work central and do not know one person including at work who has or would use it. the same passengers living on the route go on it 10 times a week each to work and back and to town at weekend and pensioners out on a jolly. Who in their right mind would drag a suitcase to a bus stop and then travel to town to a tram stop to get a tram to the airport. Its mental you just go to the airport by taxi from your front door as most of us (80% of population)don’t live around the short tram route. This barmy council just spent £9.5 million widening pavements in Leith etc and its not tram friendly and so this will be reversed to a tune of yet another £10 million if extension goes ahead. Oh Yeah… the Edinburgh people love the Trams. Not in your dreams. Why dont you do a poll online or street and ask all the bus travellers what they think of the trams, thats where you will find a true opinion from all sorts of working and non working people and try the motorists going to work along the route while you are at it. I am going to create a Teeshirt saying not to use the £776 line (AKA the trams). You should be ashamed of your article as it is utter nonesense and untrue. Most people of Edinburgh do not and will never use the trams even if it passed their door. Its a political stance that most have agreed on. I expect you are a driver and dont talk to people on the way to work, Most on the buses feel the same. Rock on LRT Buses. They are the best city transport system in the world and do not need Tom the tank engine choo choo added to their fleet to welcome unsuspecting tourists to Edinburgh at the Airport. Its laughable and we are paying for it in our increased bus fares and council tax while it drains the LRT profits. You must go for dinner with Lesley Hinds as I am sure she will give you a warm welcome or perhaps you have already met. You may get a key to city for this rare good publicity about the trams. It just adds to the lies told about the Trams that still infest our newspapers and online news. Maybe you should investigate things properly before you write a lot of Tosh. Helen Breheny
