Liam Craig (4)

Former Hibs’ skipper Liam Craig has rejected a move to English Conference Premier side Guiseley.

The Chirnside born midfielder had been in talks with Guiseley and was expected to sign a contract but instead decided to remain full-time.

Craig joined Hibs two seasons ago from St Johnstone where he had been the club top scored in three of his five seasons. Before that, he played under John Hughes at Falkirk and at Ipswich where he captained the team that won the FA Youth Cup.

A statement on the Guiseley website today read: “Extensive discussions did take place between the club, the player and his representatives.

“Having impressed both Liam and his team with our ambitions to progress both on and off the field, it seemed that a deal to bring Liam to Nethermoor could be agreed.

“After spending some time with his family on holiday, Liam decided that for domestic reasons, and a wish at 28 to continue in the full-time game, he would not be joining the club. We, of course, respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”
