This week, The Big C announced a host of top flight acts appearing at the Big Comedy Gala in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and decided to offer a complete unknown a chance to steal the show in front of an audience of 2000 comedy fans.

The show, which will be hosted by pop music comedy duo Die Roten Punkte on Friday 28 August at the EICC is designed to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support with all involved donating their time for free.

Joining the ranks of Big C alumni including Sarah Millican, Ed Byrne, Roy Walker, Lee Nelson and Chris Ramsey for the 2015 show are David O’Doherty, Felicity Ward, Andrew Maxwell, Andrew Lawrence, Imran Yusuf and Glenn Wool with many more to be confirmed.

This year, the producers have also opted to offer an emerging comic a 4 minute set in front of the 2000 strong house, selecting East Calder stand-up Craig Scott for the honour. Scott got into comedy eight years ago by joining an online joke site, but didn’t perform until 2012 at London’s The Hob. Since then, it’s been a slow start with just 9 other gigs.

Big C producer Barry Church-Woods is confident his set will go down a storm though:

“I’ve known Craig since school and he’s always had an uncanny ability to make people laugh, sometimes at him, but mainly with him. I love the fact that he’s agreed to take on this task, and it’s particularly pertinent as he’ll be the first person to grace the stage in the show’s four year history who actually knew my sister Julie, whose death inspired this event being staged”.

It’s a big year for The Big C, with the addition of a day-time Big Cabaret Gala, also in aid of Macmillan hosted by Lili la Scala.

Tickets are on sale for both at edfringe.com and venue150.com or through Ticketweb.
