CHIEF SCIENTIST AND ROYAL COLLEGE PRESIDENT TO DISCUSS INNOVATIONS IN HEALTH CARE RESEARCH IN FREE PUBLIC LECTURE SERIES
Professor Andrew Morris, Chief Scientist at the Scottish Government Health Directorate and Professor Derek Bell, President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh will lead the discussion on innovation in health care research at this month’s InnovationNation free public lecture at Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).
Both speakers will present their views in 20-minute lectures before joining forces to lead an open forum discussion. The early evening event on Thursday 19 March 2015 starts at 6.30pm (registration from 6pm) and refreshments will be provided. Andrew Morris is Chief Scientist at the Scottish Government Health Directorate and Professor of Medicine, Director of the Institute of Population Health Sciences and Informatics and Vice-Principal for Data Science at The University of Edinburgh. Professor Morris is also co-founder of informatics company, Aridhia. The Edinburgh and Glasgow based company develops technology and capability that supports the management of chronic diseases, precision medicine and biomedical research through the use of biomedical informatics and analytics.
Derek Bell is President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and Professor of Acute Medicine at Imperial College London. A University of Edinburgh graduate, Professor Bell has held senior clinical posts in the NHS in both Scotland and England. The department he oversees at Imperial College London includes a £10m research programme on the acceleration of research into practice. Other areas of research interest are the organisation and delivery of healthcare in relation to patient outcomes and the role of patient and public involvement in research.
