Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted assault and break-in on London Road which  happened around 5:30am this morning at a residential property near McDonalds.

Two men attempted to force entry into the rear of the property. They then threatened a 44-year-old male resident before attempting to assault him using a hammer.

They are believed to have got into a silver vehicle before driving off on London Road.

The two suspects are described as white, 5 ft 10 inches tall, aged between 30 and 40 years old with Scottish accents. They were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Detective Constable Emma Wilkinson said: “This has been a terrifying ordeal for the victim and his family.

“We are urging anyone who may have seen the suspects or their vehicle, who heard the attempted forced entry, or who knows who they are, to come forward.”
