Hibs will face Berwick Rangers in the quarter final of the William Hill Scottish Cup at Easter Road on Sunday 8 March, kick off 12.45pm.

Berwick beat  Lowland League side Spartans 1-0 in a replay at Shielfield Park last night to book their place in the last-eight and the eagerly awaited tie at Easter Road.

The tie brings back memories of a Scottish Cup 4th round match 48 years ago when the wee Rangers arrived at Easter Road after sensationally beating Glasgow Rangers 1-0 in the previous round, a result that shocked the football world and is still talked about today. Almost 30,000 watched the quarter final where Berwick scored a disallowed goal and Jock Wallace saved a penalty before Hibs eventually won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jim Scott.

The two teams last met in a pre-season friendly at Shielfield Park with Hibernian winning 4-0 goals with both vice-captain David Gray and captain Liam Craig getting on the scoresheet.

The last time the two clubs met in a competitive fixture was a Scottish League Cup tie at Easter Road in August 2011 with Hibernian emerging 5-0 victors from the contest.

Berwick are captained by former Hibernian Academy graduate Lee Currie – a Leither, who progressed up through the youth ranks with Paul Hanlon – while Hibernian captain Liam Craig, who comes from Chirnside, kicked off his youth career with his local club, Berwick Rangers.

The tie was drawn by William Hill World Darts champion Gary ‘The Flying Scotsman’ Anderson, who coincidentally grew up in Musselburgh, but learned to play darts in Berwick
