While the spotlight has been on the outstanding performances of Scott Allan and Dylan McGeouch in Hibs’ midfield, the form of ‘veteran’ Scott Robertson has slipped under the radar slightly, but the midfielder who was named man of the match during last Friday’s 2-0 win at Ibrox where he scored the opener – his fourth goal in eight games, believes supporters are starting to see the best of him and that’s down to the fact he is suited to the style of play employed by Head Coach Alan Stubbs.
Speaking to Hibs TV, Robertson said: “I think the fans are probably starting to see the best of me.
“I don’t think I played that badly last season, but whenever you manage to score a goal it does put a sheen on a performance.
“The amount I’ve scored in the last couple of months makes it all seem a bit better. I think my performances have been similar, but the fact I’ve scored a few goals makes it appear better.
“It’s night and day compared to last season – I’m always involved in the game; there is never a moment when you’re not looking to receive the ball.
“You’re always looking to receive the ball from your defenders, strikers or your fellow midfielders, so it’s constant participation in the game as opposed to constantly fighting for second balls.
“We’re always looking to receive the ball rather than chase for it, so it’s enjoyable to be a part of it.
“It’s enjoyable to play in and hopefully enjoyable to watch as well.”
“The difference between last weekend’s fixture and this Saturday’s game is the expectation level.
“A lot of people will expect us to beat Dumbarton, but we’ve played them at home already this season and we dropped points.
“So we know it’s not going to be easy and Dumbarton, who made a few new signings, will make it difficult.
“But we’re aiming to play well, win the match and stay in second.”
