Hibs’ Head Coach Alan Stubbs has singled out Liam Fontaine for praise after an outstanding performance in yesterday’s 3-1 victory over Raith Rovers which sees the Easter Road side move into third place in the Championship.
Speaking to Hibs TV after the game, a delighted Stubbs said: “I have to say that Liam Fontaine was outstanding today. He really gave a commanding performance. He is an absolutely fantastic professional, looks after himself immensly in the gym and he deserves the praise. I thought the two centre backs did really well. At the end of the game I singled out Liam but said to Paul (Hanlon) that he did well but Liam just shaded him and Paul took it in the right way. They gave us a platform and snuffed ther threats out.
“At one point in his career, Liam was looked at as a multi million pound player going to Southampton but for whatever reason it never happened. He had a couple of injuries but you can see that he has had quality and he still obviously possesses it.
“I thought we showed some real clever movement and passing but then when we were in good positions we just probably forced it and didn’t wait for that split second for things to open up.
“The biggest thing I spoke to them at half time about was the decision making as in if we make better decisions things will happen.
“There was a sight element of frustration overrided by the belief that they would take one or a few of the chances sooner or later. I trust the players. I’m hoping that more often than not they will make the right decison.
“I think when we go to the later stages of the game we moved and passed the ball and they (Raith Rovers) got tired and thats where the gaps appeared. The game started to get stretched and that suited us a lot more.
“This is not an easy place to come to. Raith are a hard working team who make it difficult for you so to come away from here with a performance and result means that I am happy. This has set us up nicely going into next week’s game (against Rangers) so I’m absolutely thrilled.
