Tonight in South Queensferry and on the Fife coast you will see the fireworks above the Forth Road Bridge marking the end of the Forth Bridges Festival. At 10.06pm (the bridge is 1006m across the main span) there will be fireworks above the bridge which will be lit up with the torchlight held by 2014 torchbearers.  There is a Bridge Party in South Queensferry and you may still be able to get tickets here on the Forth Bridges Festival website.

The council have advised us that road resurfacing works will get under way at the foot of Dundas Street from this Monday 15 September, scheduled to last three weeks.The work, part of the Council’s 2014/15 Capital Maintenance Programme, will see the carriageway resurfaced on Dundas Street between Fettes Row and the junction with Henderson Row.One traffic lane will be maintained in each direction under contraflow traffic management and the permanent traffic lights at Henderson Row junction will continue to operate as normal.

However, right turns from Dundas Street into Eyre Place will be prohibited for the duration of the contract.

The hours of work will generally be 7.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday, although on occasion work may take place up to 10pm. No work will take place on Saturdays or Sundays and every effort will be made to keep noise and disruption to a minimum.

The parking and taxi rank will be suspended to allow the works to take place, while temporary bus stops will be provided when the bus stops are out of commission. In addition, Fettes Row both to the east and west of Dundas Street will need to be closed for certain periods.

Access to the western side of Fettes Row will be maintained for residents and local businesses as this is a cul-de-sac with no alternative means of access. A local diversion will be in place for access to the eastern side of Fettes Row.

Eteaket have been in touch to tell us that they are serving free   tea and porridge breakfast next week, which they are hosting with Stoats the porridge people.

They say: “We will be handing out free tea and porridge from the Stoats-mobile outside the eteaket Tea Room 41 Frederick Street from 8am – 11am on Tuesday the 16th of September.”

The time was right for an Edinburgh golfer when he scored a hole-in-one during a recent club competition to be rewarded with a limited-edition BOSS watch as recognition for the achievement.

Jim Richardson, 82, scored his ace on the 169-yard, par-three eighth at Linlithgow GC, and the 24-handicapper was rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1 Club and a specially-commissioned, commemorative timepiece.

He said: “I hit a seven-wood as sweet and straight as I have ever struck a golf ball, and was rewarded with a hole-in-one.”

The luxury German brand has once again pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition in 2014 after giving away £600,000-worth of limited-edition mementos in 2013 – and Richardson is among the latest to achieve the feat this year.

The scheme is open to any golfer whose club uses HowDidiDo – a free-to-use, web-based social network for golfers – and anybody playing in official club competitions is eligible. Currently, more than 1,800 clubs use the website.
