Petrofac Training Cup 2nd Round, Wednesday 20 August 2014 – Almondvale Stadium
A young Hearts team crashed out of the Petrofac Training Cup following a 4-1 defeat to fellow SPFL Championship side Livingston at the Almondvale Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Hearts Head Coach Robbie Neilson made ten changes to the side that defeated Hibernian in the Championship on Sunday, opting to give some of Hearts youth team their opportunity to show what they could do. An indication of this was the fact that half the Hearts team made their first team debuts.
The home side took the lead after just six minutes through White and this proved to be the only goal of the first half. Hearts David Smith came close to levelling the tie early in the second half but, in truth, the Livvy Lions dominated the game. White added a second goal 15 minutes before the end before substitutes Hippolyte and Robertson added two more. Hearts grabbed a consolation in the dying seconds although even this was an own goal from Talbot.
A night to forget for Hearts as their young team bowed out of the Petrofac Training Cup after the Maroons first defeat in competitive fixtures this season.
