Hibs Head Coach Alan Stubbs was happy with the performance of his players despite the narrow defeat to last season’s Scottish Cup runners up Dundee United at Easter Road yesterday.
Over 6000 fans turned out to watch the only home pre-season fixture and the players were applauded from the pitch at full time after a brave performance.
Stubbs said: “It was a positive performance today. We played as well today as we have in previous matches and to do that against opposition of that calibre was good.
“It was there for all the fans to see that we are going to try and get the ball down and play football; not just because it looks good, but with a purpose.
“I want us to create goal scoring opportunities. There’s still areas to work on, but I think today’s performance can only be looked at in positive terms.
“This was the hardest team we’ve come up against, by quite a bit.
“I thought the lads stood up to that challenge. It’s just a friendly though and we start for real against Rangers on 5 August (click here for ticket info). I thought today was a huge step towards preparing for that.”
Hibernian’s next and final pre-season match is on Wednesday night at East Fife, kick off 7.45pm (admission, Adults: £10, Concessions: £5).
