Hibs’ defender Ryan McGivern says he is delighted to be named in Northern Ireland’s squad to face Cyprus in Nicosia on Wednesday 5 March.
The 24 year old left back has already got 20 caps for his country and now, after recovering from an injury, says he is looking forward to adding to that against Cyprus.
McGivern told Hibernian TV: “It’s great to be back in the Northern Ireland squad; I’m feeling good and glad to be back in the Hibs team.
“I’m looking forward to pushing on between now and the end of the season and helping Hibs to get into the top six.”
With fellow defenders Michael Nelson, Paul Hanlon and Jordon Forster all chipping in with goals over the past three months, McGivern is the only regular member of the back-four not to have scored, but the former Manchester City defender says that, although it would be good to find the net, his primary objective is to record clean sheets.
He added: “It would be nice to get on the scoresheet, but as long as the team is winning and getting clean sheets that is the most important thing.
“As a defender, I would always prefer to record a clean sheet than score a goal if I’m being honest.”
