TER Racing at Musselburgh (1)

Musselburgh Racecourse is laying on a First Foot Special bus service to ferry race goers to and from the track for its New Year Day meeting.

With a reduced public transport service on 1 January the East Lothian venue hopes to make it easier for racing fans planning to attend one of the highlights of Scotland’s jumps season.

Chartered buses will leave Waterloo Place in Edinburgh at 11am with a return scheduled for 3.45pm following the last of seven races.

The return journey cost only £5 but tickets must be booked in advance online and an e-ticket printed and presented to the bus driver before travel. Tickets can be booked up to midnight on Tuesday 31 December.

Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Mary-Ann Sandercock, said: “New Year’s Day is one of Scotland’s biggest jumps meetings and we know that on top of our regular racing fans, many people are looking for an exciting alternative way to spend the first day of the year.

“We hope the special First Foot buses will make it easier for customers to get to and from Musselburgh and add to the enjoyment of this special day.”

The New Year’s Day meeting have a prize pot of £117,000 and with two races broadcast live on Channel 4, the feature races are the £40,000 Totepool Mobile Hogmaneigh Hurdle and the £25,000 Totepool.com Scottish Premier Steeple Chase.

The first of six races is off at 12.25pm and gates open on 1 January at 10.30am.
