Lothian Buses promises to reveal the industry secrets and impressive history behind the award-winning company as it opens its doors to the public once again on Saturday 28 September as part of the Cockburn Association’s Doors Open Day.
Building on the success of the 2012 event which attracted 4,000 visitors, Lothian Buses will be making this year’s event even bigger and better.
This year’s event highlights will include ‘hybrid bus’ racing, a special visiting bus from overseas, and a line up of Edinburgh double-deckers from the last 70 years.
As part of the 2013 event, there will be a kidzone with face painting and bouncy castle, a display of classic photos and memorabilia and new for this year there will be an eco zone and plus many surprises along with the usual favourites of the vintage buses on display and trips through the bus wash. Catering is also provided again including a hog roast.
Dr Steve Johnson, event organiser, said:- “The Cockburn Association’s Doors Open Day is a great opportunity for us to welcome the general public along and to learn more about what we do. The event will be great fun for all the family.”
“The 2013 event promises to be the best yet and we look forward to welcoming many of our passengers and other visitors to the depot. The ‘hybrid bus’ racing is likely to be a big attraction but we have plenty of other attractions to keep everyone occupied.”
Doors Open Days run throughout September across Scotland, giving millions of people free access to locations normally kept under lock and key. Lothian Buses was one of the first of the 500 plus Scottish buildings to sign up for the 2013 event.
Central Depot will be open from 11.45am until 16.00 on Saturday 28 September only. Depot tours will run regularly throughout the day using open top double-decker buses. The event is free, and all donations received will go to Lothian Buses’ 2013 Charity of the Year – It’s Good to Give.
