Police in Edinburgh are carrying out enquiries into an incident where a young woman was robbed in her home in the south of the city on Saturday evening. The robbery took place in Southhouse Crescent around 10.30pm after the man forced his way into the family home and ransacked it taking away money and jewellery.

The young woman answered the door and was faced by the man in possession of a knife who forced his way in past the girl, who was not physically injured in the robbery.

Detective Constable Dominic Cox, who is leading the enquiry, said: “This was an isolated and unusual incident, however it is essential that we catch this man as soon as possible and so I would ask the public who has any information to contact us immediately. He is described as being white, in the 20s and around five foot eight to five foot 10 inches in height, with a heavy build and wearing black trousers and a black top, possibly with paint staining. During the robbery he wore a balaclava in an attempt to hide his face.

“He left the house carrying a large clear or white coloured bag as well as a dark coloured rucksack.

“I am appealing for anyone who was in the area of Southhouse Crescent between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday night and who saw anyone acting suspiciously and fitting that description, to contact Police Scotland immediately on 101 or tell us anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
