Hunt & Darton Cafe has announced that 25 August 2013 has been designated Christmas Day in their establishment. Mince pies, roast turkey dinner sandwiches and other trimmings will be available as well as their usual fayre and all to a soundtrack of the very best Christmas songs.
As well as all this Christmas fare, Catherine Bennett has been called upon to play her first Scottish gig at 2pm – and its FREE to attend.
Having warmed up in England, Catherine Bennett is ready for her debut in Scotland. Catherine will be backed by dancers from Figs In Wigs and there will be a special guest appearance from New York artist Jon Burgerman. Nine year-old Taylor Houchen, Catherine Bennett’s manager and Bryony Kimming’s niece will be on hand to introduce her.
Kimmings and Taylor have been performing their smash hit show Credible Likeable Superstar Role Model to sell out crowds at the Fringe achieving 5 star critical acclaim. The show tells the story of the creation of museum-working, imagination-championing, bike-riding, tuna-pasta-eating pop star Catherine Bennett by the artist and her niece. Most importantly it explains why they created her as an audacious, provocative protest against the world’s flagrant attempts to sexualise and commodify childhood for profit.
As a parallel project to the creation of the show the pair have been working with former Girls Aloud make-up artists, ID magazine stylists, X Factor wig experts, prolific pop producers and a pack of publicists to make CB famous … like WORLD FAMOUS. Bryony wanted to prove to Taylor that an alternative role model in mainstream popular media was possible … as a gift from her Aunty.
Catherine said ‘I hope all my tweenage fans will head to the café on Sunday, one of my favourite spots in Edinburgh’. The singer will perform songs including Animal Kingdom and Apathy. There will be signed photos and the opportunity for those attending to meet Catherine.
‘Catherine is very kind’, said Taylor. ‘She is interested in community, tradition, hard work and safety and wears a dinosaur bone necklace with knee length skirts. I hope lots of people come to see and meet her.’
