Exclusive Performances and Album Launches
After the success of 2012’s music programme and a host of high profile Scottish and International musical performances under the beautiful chandeliers of The Assembly Rooms, AR Fringe George Street have upped the ante for 2013 with an even bigger and more diverse program full of exclusive performances, record launches and commemorative milestones.
Capercaillie celebrates 30 years in the business with their first Edinburgh date of 2013 on August 05. Needing little introduction, Capercaillie are one of Scotland’s most treasured musical acts with the voice of Karen Matheson at the helm. The band have played all over the world and have a new album in the pipeline which will surely be previewed at this special Edinburgh Festival date.
Another Scottish luminary but in an altogether different musical vein is Horse McDonald. She has released eight albums in her career and her festival show on August 04 celebrates the launch of her ninth long player entitled ‘Home’ to be released on her own Randan Records. Horse has toured with the likes of Tina Turner, BB King and Bryan Ferry and has fans as diverse as Graham Norton and the late Iain Banks.
Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire celebrate the release of their eponymous and self-titled new album with an exclusive acoustic performance on August 11. The album has been produced by Coldplay producer Danton Supple and follows on from 3 EP releases. Hart has spent the last few years building his six piece band and this special stripped back performance will no doubt highlight the broody and atmospheric Celtic sound they are renowned for.
A world away from jangling guitars and Celtic harmonies, AR Fringe are very excited about the debut performance of OMEGA by Russian theatre company blackSKYwhite. Avant-garde noise-maker and composer Michael Begg will be launching his new album on July 31 to be released on CD & digital entitled ‘Omega: OST’ and released on Begg’s own Omnempathy label. His album is the soundscape backdrop to OMEGA, a mixture of physical theatre and music against a backdrop of mythical freaks, ageless hucksters and mind-twisting curiosities. This rampage of a show is set to cause quite a stir and has a full run at this year’s festival.
Motown queen, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas will be coming to the capital for their debut Fringe performance – a double whammy on August 06 and 07. Portico Quartet launch their vinyl album ‘Live/Remix’ and two EPs on the first date of their performance, August 05. Merrymouth, the new band of Simon Fowler from Ocean Colour Scene will be making their first ever trip to Scotland on August 12 and Northern Irish singer songwriter Damien Dempsey visits our shores for the first time in 2013 playing on August 14.
Mogwai, currently on Sunday night television with the soundtrack of Channel 4’s The Returned, headline the Doogie Paul Memorial Concert on August 08. Joining them will be King Creosote, James Yorkston and Sheena Wellington with guest MC Ian Rankin. All proceeds go towards charities Macmillan, Marie Curie, TCCL and Sick Kids.
