The council has just launched a consultation on what might happen in the city centre to improve it. The process runs until 9 May and there are two drop in events when you can have a look at all plans and make your own suggestions. There is also an online process to add your voice. More here.

The capital coalition has taken a stance on bedroom tax, and are leading the debate against evictions on the basis of arrears which will be discussed at a council meeting on 16 April. More details here.

The Mini Maker Faire is the hottest show (and tell) in town — a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning. Bringing the curtain down on the 25th Edinburgh International Science Festival they will be showcasing the skills and ingenuity of people from across Scotland and beyond. From traditional crafts to innovative technologies, rapid prototyping to skills honed over many years, the Mini Maker Faire celebrates the diversity and quality of an exciting world of resourceful, creative endeavour. Highlights include; a life size Iron Man suit, a reactive dancefloor, 3D printing and workshops in everything from making dinosaur models to food flavoured soaps.

The speakers have been announced for TEDGlobal 2013 which will take place in Edinburgh in June this year. They include the former Prime Minister of Greece, George Papandreou, and singer, Natasha Bedingfield.
