With four SEPA flood warnings currently in force, the Council’s flood prevention team is operating 24-hour standby, monitoring all areas at risk and taking appropriate action as necessary.
As at 4.00pm today SEPA has issued flood warnings for four areas of the city: Cramond, Roseburn, Stockbridge and Warriston.
River levels are now dropping and the rain is easing. The forecast is for light rain to continue.
Stockbridge Colonies
The Council’s Flood Prevention team is working with its partners including Lothian and Borders Police to deal with flooding in the Stockbridge colonies, where between 30 and 40 homes have been affected by flooding from the Water of Leith. Sandbags have been provided to residents and the Council’s Emergency Social Work team has also organised Stockbridge Primary School as a standby rest and information centre should any affected residents wish to leave their homes. We continue to monitor the situation in conjunction with our partner organisations and would advise anyone with concerns to contact the Council’s Emergency Contact Centre on 0131 200 2000. Taste of Edinburgh
Due to the extreme weather conditions this morning, the Taste of Edinburgh site became flooded and consequently, following consultation with Council Events and Public Safety officers, the event organisers have decided to cancel the rest of the event. The site is considered unsafe due to excessive flooding.
It was not an easy decision but the health and safety of all members of the public, exhibitors and site staff is of paramount importance.
