Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was threatened with a knife in Edinburgh on Tuesday night (July 19).

The 13-year-old girl was at the corner of Ransome Gardens and Rannoch Terrace about 8.45pm when a man approached her from behind, pushed her to the ground and threatened her with a knife. The girl managed to struggle free, and ran off.

The man is described as being white, between 20-30-years-old, 6ft tall with protruding eyes, rotten teeth and a gaunt face. He was wearing a black hooded top, with the hood up, and spoke with a Scottish accent.

A police spokesperson said: “Fortunately the young girl was not injured in this incident, but she has been left understandably shaken as a result of this. We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time, and who saw what happened, to contact police.

“In addition, we would be keen to hear from anyone who may recognise the description of the suspect.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
