There was some very sad local news yesterday with the announcement that The Guardian newspaper is pulling out of its ‘experiment’ with local news, and the Guardian Local blogs in Edinburgh, Leeds & Cardiff are to be scaled down over the next month. Our report is here.
This morning at the City Chambers the full council meeting will be preceded by a demonstration by the Save Inverleith Park campaign. They are also due to make a deputation at the meeting itself. We will bring you more on the story later.
The Federation of Edinburgh and District Allotments and Gardens Associations (FEDAGA) and the City of Edinburgh Council are pleased to announce this year’s competition for allotment holders and allotment sites.
The categories are: Best Allotment Plot, Best Allotment Site, Waste Wise Award (for the site best demonstrating reduce, reuse and recycle principles) and Most Improved Allotment Site.
This year there will also be a school food growing competition for which the deadline is 10th June 2011. The deadline for entries is 3rd June 2011.

At the High Court in Glasgow yesterday, Lord Bracadale sentenced Theresa Riggi, convicted last month of killing her three children at a flat in Edinburgh last August, to 16 years imprisonment. The BBC were at the High Court. The Scotsman reported that veteran QC, Donald Findlay, admitted that he head never ‘experienced tragedy like this’.
The BBC also report that Robert Bayne was also convicted at the High Court in Edinburgh for murdering his girlfriend Zoe Nelson.
