Hibs fought back from 2-1 down to secure all three points after a pulsating 98 minutes at Easter Road tonight.
David Gray made three changes to his starting XI following Sunday’s draw with Rangers.
Deadline Day arrivals Munashe Garananga and Felix Passlack both made their debuts for the club and Dane Scarlett who came on as a substitute against Rangers made his first start.
The trio replaced Kanayo Megwa and Joe Newell who both dropped to the bench and the injured Grant Hanley.
Other new signings Kai Andrews and Owen Elding who both appeared off the bench against Rangers, and the third Deadline Day signing Ante Šuto were named amongst the substitutes alongside Jordan Smith, Nicky Cadden and Rudi Molotnikov.
Jim Goodwin also made two changes following Dundee United’s defeat to Hearts.
Dario Naamo and Zac Sapsford replaced Ryan Strain and the suspended Amar Fatah.
The visitors started on the front foot
Kristijan Trapanovski beat two Hibs defenders but his shot from a tight angle went out for a throw-in.
At the other end Youan did well to race down the right and cross towards the penalty spot but Scarlett was unable to take advantage.
Scarlett then did well to set up Youan but his effort went wide.
Sam Cleall-Harding unleashed a shot from distance which deflected just wide of Raphael Sallinger’s left-hand post.
Rocky Bushiri then headed a Dan Barlaser cross over the bar from close range as play raged from end to end.
In the 15th minute Passlack was shown a yellow card for pulling back Will Ferry and from the resultant free-kick Raphael Sallinger produced a vital save to deny Kristijan Trapanovksi.
Youan who was looking sharp tested Ashley Maynard-Brewer with a powerful effort from the edge of the area.
An overhit United cross was kept in and Zac Sapsford shot was blocked. The ball fell to Craig Sibbald whose strike was stopped by the chest of Bushiri.
Scarlett went close with a header from a corner then Sapsford did likewise at the other end,
Hibs eventually took the lead in the 35th minute. Passlack and Scarlett combined well down the right before the Spurs youngster found Boyle on the edge of the area and his strike took a deflection off Cleall-Harding before finding the back of the net.
And that was the last of the scoring in an entertaining first half.
Scarlett set up Youan with a superb through ball but the striker was off target under pressure.
Zac Sapsford misses another presentable chance.
It’s more good play from Kristijan Trapanovksi on the left and his cross is met by the Australian about 10 yards out but his volleyed effort flies off target.
Scarlett was harshly booked for a foul on Luca Stephenson in the middle of the park.
Scarlett set up Passlack who curled a brilliant ball to the back post and from a few yards out Boyle headed against the crossbar.
Andrews and Suto replaced Barlaser and Scarlett on the hour mark.
Nicky Cadden then replaced Jordan Obita moments later.
And 10-minutes later Megwa replaced Passlack who went down with cramp and Boyle was replaced by Josh Campbell.
Iredale did well to stop Sapsford but from the resultant corner United equalised when Ross Graham poked the ball into the net from close range.
Seven minutes later United took the lead and again it came from a corner from the left. This time Max Watters was at the back post to head the ball into the net.
But Hibs fought back and equalised in the 88th minute.
A terrific delivery from a free kick by Cadden created havoc and Cleall-Harding sliced the ball into the path of Youan who bundled the ball into the net from one yard out.
Then in added time another free-kick from Cadden found Suto and his looping header flew past the despairing dive of Maynard-Brewer sparking mayhem among the home fans.
