A prestigious local golf competition whose past winners include a world amateur champion and a future Walker Cup captain is being revived this summer.
Duddingston golf club’s Duncan Bowl, which originated in 1934, has been won by the likes of ex-global kingpin and local icon, Ronnie Shade (four times) and George McGregor (five times during a run which also yielded the latter five Scottish amateur titles).
After a spell when the trophy was incorporated into a Handicap Open the club’s general manager, Niall Watson says:
“Everyone connected with Duddingston Golf Club feel now is the time to resurrect this great championship to its former glory and provide elite golfers (with) more competitive opportunity, by giving it something of a modern facelift.”
Taking place on Sunday, 27 July over 36 holes it will feature a shotgun start with a handicap limit of 5.3. A ballot will be held if necessary to reach the maximum 60 entries.
Prizes – 1st -£500; 2nd – £350; 3rd – £250; 4th – £150; 5th – £100.
AM & PM rounds – 1st – £150. 2nd – £100.
Entries (£60) now open at the competition section of the Duddingston GC website.
