Outdoor events in Edinburgh were cancelled on 30 December. Many people have travelled to the capital just to see a fireworks display that will not happen, and attend the street party and concert in the gardens which will not take place.

There are however many indoor events – including the Hot Dub Time Machine which relocated on Hogmanay to Assembly Hall rather than taking place outside in the gardens the night before.

Nevertheless, many locals and tourists have been disappointed and on Hogmanay there were many people on the city centre streets who said they did not know where to go. Some fireworks could be heard as the evening progressed, with some determined to celebrate in their own way.

There is a list of events which are taking place on New Year’s Day here. And most of those are free.
