A dead whale has washed along the shore to Newhaven on Sunday.

Many people have gone to look at the magnificent creature, but there is a sombre mood among the gathered groups. The animal is believed to be a humpback and was first spotted off South Queensferry.

The Scottish Marine Animal Stranding Scheme is responsible for investigating the death of the huge mammal, but it will be for the council to arrange its disposal in the coming days.

A whale died off Joppa some ten years ago, and more recently a sei whale died despite efforts to save it at South Queensferry in October last year.
