Elite League: Glasgow Clan 6, Fife Flyers 7 (after overtime); Fife Flyers 6, Glasgow Clan 7 (after overtime).
If you want goals then Fife and Glasgow supplied 26 over two games, both going to overtime. On Saturday, Flyers won the opening session 2-1 in Kirkcaldy and were 6-3 ahead after the middle period but Michael Pelech, Charlie Combs and Pelech again netted to level at 6-6 and send the game into sudden death overtime for the second night in a row.
And on this occasion it was Clan who emerged with the points after Philippe Sanche was set up by former Fife player Stephen Desrocher 1min 32sec into the extra session.
On Friday, Lucas Chiodo was Flyers’ hero as they came from behind to snatch a road win at Braehead, the 25-year-old Canadian slotting the game-winner in sudden death overtime.
Shane Owen started for the visitors in goal and he was beaten inside the first three minutes when Great Britain international Robert Lachowicz netted with Dundee-born Jordan Cownie setting up the chance.
And it was 2-0 for the home side when Gary Haden scored on a power play two minutes later after Troy Lajeunesse had been called for hooking.
However, Fife found a way to get back into the match and Collin Shirley open his and their account when he was fed by Lucas Chiodo after nine minutes, firing past Clan goaltender Antti Karjalainen.
Three minutes later and Clan were 3-1 in front when ex-Dundee Stars player Sanche found the net. This battle took another twist when Flyers inspirational skipper Jonas Emmerdahl was set up by Kyle Osterberg and Lajeunesse for Fife’s second on the night after 15 minutes.
And coach Tom Coolen’s men levelled at 3-3 just over two minutes later, Aleksi Makela providing the finishing touch with Vitalijs Pavlovs involved in the move.
Six minutes into the middle session and it was goal No 4 for Clan when Luke Lynch converted and Cownie assisting, but never-say-die Fife battled back again, this time Johan Eriksson slotted for 4-4 with Chiodo and Brodie Kay also involved. Time: 30min 19sec.
The scoreline did not stay that way for long and it was Clan who edged in front again, Haden scoring after 31min 58sec and the scoreline stayed that way until the second break.
Back came Flyers and it took them only eight seconds of the final session to level with Osterberg converting unassisted for 5-5.
Lajeunesse was in the sin bin after 56 minutes for tripping and Clan took advantage when Matt Barry scored their sixth in the 57th minute but Fife roared back 48 seconds later to stun home fans, Lajeunesse netting with Eriksson and Sean Giles involved.
The battle raged on and the sides could not be separated at the final whistle so the tense tussle moved into overtime with Clan having 1min 10sec left on a powerplay.
Fife were back at full-strength with 3min 50sec left of the extra period and they made it count with Chiodo slotted to take a welcome two points back to Kirkcaldy.
