A family-owned restaurant on the outskirts of Edinburgh has been crowned the ‘Best Seafood Establishment’ in Scotland at the Food Awards Scotland 2022.

East Coast Restaurant in Musselburgh was voted ‘Best Seafood Establishment’ in the country by the public and a panel of independent judges at the glittering industry event, which was staged at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow on Monday.

The judges praised East Coast not only for the quality of its food and service, but also for its commitment to supporting the local community and wider industry. East Coast continues to sponsor The Fisherrow and Harbour Seafront Association to help improve the harbour and seafront in Musselburgh for the benefit of the community, local people and visitors.

East Coast’s seasonal dining concept offers diners a fresh choice of limited-edition specials, including the best Scottish langoustines, mussels, clams, squid and tiger prawns.

Owned by Carlo and Katia Crolla, East Coast is the next chapter for the Crolla family, who have been serving the honest folk of Musselburgh from its venue on North High Street for nearly 50 years.

‘Best Seafood Establishment’ in Scotland is the latest accolade for East Coast, which continues to gain recognition as one of Scotland’s best seafood restaurants. They were voted the region’s ‘Best Seafood Restaurant 2021’ and ‘Seafood Restaurant of the Year 2022 – East Lothian Customer Service Excellence Award 2022’ in the Scottish Enterprise Awards, as well as winning accolades as one of Scotland’s best takeaways, including the ‘Good Food, Gold Seal Award’ for ‘Best Fish & Chips 2021’, and ‘LUXlife Food & Drink’ award for ‘Fish & Chip Takeaway of the Year 2022 – Edinburgh & The Lothians’.

Earlier this year, East Coast was also named the best in Scotland and one of the top 10 in the UK by The Sunday Times. With an estimated 10,500 chippies across the UK, The Sunday Times singled out East Coast Fish and Chips takeaway for the nation’s list of top 10 chippies and the only fish and chip shop in Scotland to make the shortlist.

East Coast also won the accolade of one of the 50 best fish and chips shops in the UK for the third year running in 2022 by leading trade publication, Fry Magazine. East Coast is the only chippy in Edinburgh and the Lothians to make Fry Magazine’s prestigious list.
