Barry McEwan (pictured) gambled by picking a mark off rocks near Dunbar and it paid off for the Post Seton-based angler.

He landed a cod of 3lbs 14oz to win the heaviest fish prize at the first Winter League session for the Bass Rock Shore Angling League.

It wasn’t enough for Barry to win the heaviest weight prize as that was shared by Dale McCallum and Cameron Cunningham who landed flat fish off Belhaven Beach.

Unlucky angler James Ogilvie landed a cod off Dunbar Harbour wall but it was 2cm short of the legal limit and it was returned to the sea.

The next meeting of the league is on September 23 and the venue will be posted on the club Facebook page on the Sunday before the match.
