Hibs’ legend John Brownlie is back in football as a coach with Lowland League side East Stirlingshire.

The Scotland international  is a familiar face at the Shire having previously managed the club in 1997.

He has a wealth of experience in the game starting as an attacking full back at Hibs where he was a member of the great side of the early 70s known as Turnbull’s Tornadoes that won the League Cup.

Capped as a teenager, he suffered a broken leg against East Fife in the game after Hibs 7-0 win at Tynecastle and his absence was widely credited as being the reason Hibs failed to win the title that year.

He subsequently moved to Newcastle United where he played over 100 games for the Geordies before going on to manage Cowdenbeath, Arbroath, Meadowbank Thistle and Berwick Rangers he will add experience to the coaching team.

He was also a coach with Raith Rovers for a spell alongside Terry Butcher.

In 2017 he was inducted into the Hibernian Hall of Fame.

Manager Derek Ure said “I’ve been trying to get John to become part of my team for a couple of years now and we are delighted he has finally agreed to come on board for next season, his knowledge and experience is huge and I am delighted to bring him in to be part of my team”
