An investigation is underway after a 38-year-old man was attacked in London Road around 7pm last night.
The man suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
Part of the road was cordoned off following the incident to allow for a forensic examination of the scene.
The victim was released from the hospital and enquiries into the circumstances continue.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7pm on Tuesday, 21 July, we received reports that a man had been assaulted on London Road, Edinburgh.
“A 38-year-old suffered serious injury and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment and released a short time later.
