This Dundee restaurant is on a mission to spread the joy of contemporary Italian food as it approaches its busiest ever festive season. So when you next go to the V&A in Dundee this is our suggestion for you to try.
The Italian Grill in City Square, Dundee, just next to The Caird Hall, has a brand new offering this autumn and winter. Together with husband and wife restaurateurs, Jonathan and Martine Horne, new Head Chef David Tough, and Manager Jonnie Armitage, are developing the bar and grill with its contemporary Italian cuisine to a new level of excellence.
The 150 cover restaurant was developed from an old council tax office five years ago, becoming the first restaurant and bar in the city to have a contemporary open kitchen where diners could watch the chefs go about their work.
A new menu plus their festive offering has just been launched, all overseen by new Head Chef David Tough, a native Dundonian who has introduced delicious new dishes such as basil gnocchi with minestrone and pesto.
Italian Grill continues to offer its popular and informative Cocktail Masterclasses, which make an ideal group activity, and include a choice of snacks and meals to enhance the experience.
All the dishes on the menu show David’s expert eye for detail and flavour combinations. A wide selection of fresh egg pasta dishes appear on the menu, such as squid ink spaghetti, rigatoni arrabbiata, salmon conchiglie and rigatoni bolognese. Pizzas, with a huge variety of toppings, are prepared fresh in the traditional wood stone oven, and fantastic steaks are another popular menu staple.
Manager Jonnie Armitage explained the new set up: “The lead up to Christmas is always a very exciting time for us, and this year more than ever we expect Dundonians to be out in force celebrating, along with visitors from other cities coming to see the V&A and other attractions of the City….there is definitely a real buzz.
“We are delighted to have our new team, led by David, our fantastic new Head Chef, and a native Dundonian. Corey our Bar Manager , responsible for creating our amazing cocktails – and inventing some of his own – leads up front of house, along with myself. We are ready and waiting to show off our delicious festive fare, and professional service.”
