Edinburgh Eastern MSP, Ash Denham, will host an advice surgery in Portobello for EU citizens in her Edinburgh Eastern constituency. She invites anyone who is worried about how the UK leaving the European Union may affect them to come along.
In addition to Ms. Denham and her constituency office case workers, an EU Support Adviser from Citizens Advice Edinburgh will also be in attendance to offer advice on how they may be affected by changes in the UK immigration rules due to Brexit.
The Scottish Government has been running a ‘Stay in Scotland’ campaign, which has included funding £800,000 over three years to Citizens Advice Scotland to deliver an advice and support service for EU citizens.
Ms. Denham said:”As Brexit reaches a critical stage, this will be a time of stress and worry for many of my constituents, particularly EU citizens who have chosen to make Edinburgh and Scotland their home.
“And so I am pleased to have arranged this special advice surgery – in conjunction with Citizens Advice Edinburgh – to allow any EU citizens who weren’t born in the UK the opportunity to seek advice and support with regards to the EU Settlement Scheme and to seek clarification on any other Brexit-related questions they may have.
“While this will undoubtedly be an uncertain time for everyone living in my constituency, let me be clear that Scotland values EU citizens, they are welcome here, and they play a vital role in not only Edinburgh and Scotland’s economic success but also the richness and diversity that they bring to Scottish culture. Scotland is an open, welcoming country, and we want EU citizens to stay.”
The advice surgery will be held on Friday 1 November 2019 between 3.00-4.00pm at Bellfield Community Centre, Portobello. No appointment is necessary.
