The Bay Hotel & Leisure Centre in Kinghorn has completed a major refurbishment of its iconic Horizons Restaurant and Waterfront Lounge.

The new look, completed in less than three months, and designed in house by Director Tommy Wallace, has, as its centrepiece, a stunning T-shaped bar with a “cracked ice” effect glass frontage.

The new bar is complete with glass shelving to display signature drinks, while the use of glass is also referenced in a spectacular glass partition separating the bar from the main restaurant, and in two new glass ceiling decorations, displaying leaf designs in vivid orange.

A glass wall now runs along the entire restaurant area, etched with eye catching designs of the three Forth Bridges, visible in the distance. The outside viewing terrace from Horizons can now be accessed through a new door, so that guests can pop outside on a nice summer’s evening to enjoy the expansive views across the Forth to Edinburgh.

Horizons has a new table layout, making the most of its space, to incorporate both larger tables for private parties and groups, alongside more intimate dining.

The impressive makeover involved taking the bar and restaurant area back to bare plaster walls. It has been fully re-decorated, re-floored, and has a new ceiling and lighting fitted. Unique, modern booth seating with solid oak resin tables, has been fitted in the Waterfront Lounge area for a more rustic dining experience. This part of the room has brick tiled walls, and trendy hanging metal lighting.

For the first time, the Waterfront Lounge has a dedicated sports bar and family area, up a short flight of steps leading from the lounge. This cosy area features TV screens, and food can be served. It can also be used for children’s parties, and private gatherings.

Tommy Wallace said: “We are delighted to unveil this amazing new look to Horizons and the Waterfront Lounge. We are really pleased with it, and are happy to say that there has already been a great response to it from customers old and new – they all love what we have done with the space to give it this fantastic fresh appeal.”

“Horizons is now elegant and contemporary, in keeping with the standard of food served there every day, whilst The Waterfront Lounge perfectly meets the needs of family and casual dining. The finish is hard wearing and durable enough to cope with the numbers we see regularly dining here,” said Tommy.

“The new glass bar is already attracting a lot of attention,” he added. “The room has the presence to take something of this scale. When we complete a refurbishment anywhere in the business, we do it to last a good few years, so quality materials and the overall finish is very important.”

“We have many loyal suppliers we return to over the years, and I would like to thank them for their efforts in realising what was my vision for the design,” added Tommy. “We’ve been trading throughout, so it was a challenge to tackle what is a large area, but it has all been completed on time.”

He went on to explain that this re-fit was the latest in a series of improvements throughout the business, which had started four years ago with the swimming pool, then going on to cover the Images function suite and the toilets.

He said : “The reception area is the next public area we want to upgrade, and then we will have finished, effectively equipping the business for the next generation, creating a modern leisure business which meets the needs and desires of today’s customers.”

The Bay Hotel & Leisure Centre has used a host of local suppliers from Kirkcaldy to complete the new look to Horizons & The Waterfront Bar, including S&M Lighting Supplies, R&M Distribution, Tile Boutique, Granite Systems, and McGouldrick & Son Tile Fitters. Other suppliers include Kingdom Carpets of Leven, JCG Joinery from Dunfermline, Hurry Bros of Glasgow who supplied all the glass used in the project, and McDougall who fitted the new ceiling.

Tommy explained that he was particularly pleased with the new Sports Bar in The Waterfront Lounge, which had been created within a void next to the swimming pool.

“It looks fantastic and caters for customers who want to watch sport whilst dining, ensuring other customers are not disturbed with too many TV’s,” said Tommy. “We think it will be a very popular addition.”

“As the business enters its fourth generation,” added Tommy, “we constantly have to listen to what our customers ask for. Dining out has changed so our restaurant and bar is even more multi functional than it was before, able to effortlessly cater for the backbone of our business, the family market, along with groups looking for a private dining experience.”

Tommy concluded that it had been a good few weeks for the Bay Hotel & Leisure Centre with the hotel recently achieving its 4 star VisitScotland rating, and also picking up a Taste of Scotland award for its wide ranging menu choices showcasing local produce.

“All of our investment in the Hotel over the past ten years, has been worth it,” he said. “Food and Drink remains a huge driver in the economy and our menus have something for everyone. We also held our annual caravan show last weekend, where we offer for sale our range of luxury holiday homes. We realised it was the 29th year in a row that we had held this popular event.”
