Commuters in Balerno are warned of six months of upcoming road works due to start on Monday next week – 20 May 2019.

Scottish Water Horizons will be starting work at the roundabout at the south end of Bridge Road and moving up onto Lanark Road West and travelling East bound to the junction with Sommerville Road, later in the summer. The work will allow a new section of water pipe to be installed.

Working in 100 metre sections using temporary traffic lights, the team will be laying 700 metres of new 250mm plastic piping which will replace a 60 year cast iron pipe which has come to the end of its serviceable life. The project will improve water pressure in nearby areas and ensure people in the area can continue to enjoy a reliable supply now and in the future.

To minimise disruption during the works, the traffic lights will be manually controlled during peak times and to complete the works as quickly as possible the team will be taking advantage of the longer summer days.

Scottish Water will work to keep residents and commuters informed throughout the project. Scott Fraser, Regional Corporate Affairs Manager said: “This project is essential to being able to provide a reliable water service to our customers. We will be working as quickly as possible and would like to thank the community for their understanding and patience as this work is carried out.”
