An investigation is underway after a 29-year-old man was stabbed to death near Edinburgh Castle earlier this afternoon.

The incident took place on the city’s Johnston Terrace at 1.50pm and police are understood to have made an arrest.

Members of the public went to his aid but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Forensic officers have been called and the area has been cordoned off while investigations are carried out. It is anticipated that the road will be closed for some time.

A statement from Police Scotland is expected soon.
