The council has admitted that some of you will have received the wrong information about your bin collections owing to a data error.

There will be more collection calendars sent out later this week as the kerbside service moves to a four day week collection rota to advise those who have had incorrect information.

The council has also identified those households which may have too long to wait between collections as the changes are introduced.

The first interim collections will be made on Saturday 6 October 2018.

Transport and Environment Convener, Councillor Lesley Macinnes, said: “We appreciate that this may cause some confusion amongst residents and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“Preparations for this change, which affects more than 175,000 households, have been extremely complex and we have endeavoured to keep residents up to date throughout the process. By organising additional bin collections we aim to mitigate any disruption resulting from calendar changes and I can assure anyone who has been wrongly advised that they will receive the correct information in the coming days.”

The move to four-day week collection rotas was agreed as part of the 2018/19 budget, and the council say it will result in new collection days for many homes as bins are collected between 6am and 5pm, Tuesday to Friday.

The change will save the Council up to £500,000 as well as ending the collection of kerbside bins from residential estates late in the evening, providing a more consistent collection schedule.

New bin collection calendars will come into use from Monday, 8 October. Residents are encouraged to contact us if they have any questions or issues and can get in touch by emailing waste@edinburgh.gov.uk or calling on 0131 608 1100 (option 1, then option 9).

Of the 95,124 properties affected:
•    52,149 were not told about an additional collection they are due
•    39,440 were incorrectly told about an additional collection where there isn’t one for their service
•    3,535 were given incorrect information about the bin type that’s due a collection
